akamaiRevealing article on CDN Planet about the support of edns-client-subnet information by CDN providers and in particular those don’t do anycast for HTTP or  support edns-client-subnet, eg: Akamai, CDNetworks, CloudFront, Fastly, Internap, Level3 and Limelight, and it’s sister post Real-world CDN performance for Google DNS and OpenDNS users.

It’s suprising that Akamai and CloudFront (Amazon), who have the widest geographic server distribution and would therefore most benefit from it, aren’t supporting the DNS protocol extension.

One to watch and a situation that will hopefully be addressed soon. I’d be interested to know why these two in particular haven’t jumped at the opportunity given the obvious benefits.

As a footnote, it’s interesting that 8.04% of users worldwide use either Google DNS or OpenDNS. I expected these DNS services to be used by the technical community but these figures indicates much greater take up.

– Glad to see Cloudflare – used for this blog – supports Anycast :)

Where Napoleon feared to tread

MARTELLOTOWERHidden, snuggled, behind the High Street of a busy seaside town on the Southern Coast of Kent is a curious, weather beaten, round shaped building.
